Today's Gospel: Authentic or Synthetic
This is a book review.  The book was written by Walter Chantry and is published by Banner of Truth.  It is only 85 pages.

I read this book last night.  It is not a long book, but the message is very challenging.   Have fundamental and evangelical churches today watered down the gospel so that it is easy for many to "believe" and in the process led them astray by a gospel different than what Jesus or Paul preached.

The principle passage that Chantry uses is the encounter of the Rich Young Ruler with Christ.  Christ didn't simply, when asked what must I do to inherit eternal life, say ,"believe on me or pray this prayer and you will be saved."  He went to the heart of the matter.  The young man did not recognize his true sinfulness before the Holy God of the universe.

Do we circumvent the convicting power of the Holy Spirit when we hurry someone through the "Roman's Road" or something similar?  And then challenge them to pray the sinner's prayer giving them a false assurance of Salvation?  Do we leave them to ponder on their sin before a Holy God , waiting for the Holy Spirit to convict them and bring them to a point of repentance, or do we simply get them to pray a prayer when they are sorry for the consequences of their sin, but not really the sin?

I was greatly challenged by the book and would encourage you to read it so that you might consider how much individuals you are witnessing to are introduced to the Holy God of the Universe.
